Evenings out, door to door and back again

A great dinner in Miami should not begin with twenty minutes of circling for parking on Espanola Way and end with a debate about who is fit to drive home over the causeway. My evening clients figured out years ago that the fix costs less than the valet and the second bottle combined: I collect you at your door, deliver you to the restaurant door, and I am outside again the moment dessert wins.

The geography of a Miami night is my home turf. South Beach and the roar of Ocean Drive, the old banyan streets of Coconut Grove, Miracle Mile in Coral Gables, the murals and late kitchens of Wynwood and the Design District, a show at the Adrienne Arsht Center or a game at the Kaseya Center downtown. Brickell to South Beach is only about six miles across the MacArthur Causeway, fifteen to twenty-five minutes depending on the night, and I know which causeway is moving when the beach is packed.

Anniversaries and date nights get the First Class sedan and a little ceremony, because arriving matters. Group dinners work beautifully as a wait-and-return: one fixed quote for the night, the car stays close, and nobody watches a surge price climb while the espresso martinis land. If the evening moves, a nightcap in the Grove, a walk on the sand first, I move with it.
